Peter K. Hsu, an artist & naval architect, began painting AEGIS ships for the Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA) in 1987. His drawings have become a prominent feature at the christening and commissioning ceremonies for most AEGIS Cruisers and Destroyers. This drawing includes Fort Ticonderoga and the first 4 ships to bear the name Ticonderoga. It also shows two views of Wayne Meyer, the Father of AEGIS, the USS Norton Sound, AVM-1 which was the test platform for the AEGIS program and buildings at Naval Surface Warfare Center, Port Hueneme, CA. The drawing shows the ship crest, motto and dates of the Christening, Commissioning and Decommissioning. And it shows the ship sponsor, Nancy Reagan breaking the bottle at the Christening ceremony. This drawing is 18 X 24. Cost $20.
You can purchase an American flag flown over CG 47 prior to her decommissioning. Cost is $50.
This is a collage of one large and 5 small color pictures of CG 47 and includes the crest top right. This 8 X 10 color picture costs $5. Would look great on your wall if you frame it.
This is a collage of 19 color pictures of CG 47 and includes the ship bumper sticker at commissioning and the crest in the bottom right corner. This 8 X 10 color picture costs $5. Would look great on your wall if you frame it.
The commemorative coins are made by the Northwest Territorial Mint in Auburn, WA. All have the same design which depicts the cruiser on the front along with the ship's motto "First and Formidable" and the words "First AEGIS Cruiser." On the back are the dates of the Christening, Commissioning and Decommissioning. The ship crest is also on the back along with the name of the sponsor, Nancy Reagan. All coins come in a clear acrylic capsule and are two inches in diameter.
Each coin will come in a glassine envelope in which is the same insert card that is in the postal cachets. This insert card has a beautiful color picture of the ship with the battle flag flying and the crest and dates of commissioning and decommissioning on one side and on the back a black and white picture showing the ships characteristics.
Tico Postal Cachets
Three cachets were designed and printed to commemorate the Decommissioning. They are printed on legal sized envelopes. One Cachet has a picture on the left of the ship with the battle flag flying. It has the name and motto under the ship and the dates of commissioning and decommissioning to the right. On the back is a list of all the Commanding Officers and their dates of service.
Another Cachet has the 8 sided Radar Shield in Gray with the ship crest in the middle. Underneath it says Decomissioned Today.
The final Cachet has the 8 sided Radar Shield in Gray with the ship crest in the middle. Above the top three sides it says LAST DAY OF and below the bottom three sides it says U.S. POSTAL SERVICE. In addition to be the ship was commissioned it was also the last day of postal service.
All Cachets were cancelled on the ship on 30 September 2004. The ship cancellation has the AEGIS shield with CG-47 under the ship. In the killer bars to the right it says Decommissioned Today, USS TICONDEROGA CG-47, Sept. 30, 2004, FPO AA 34093-1158. Most of the stamps used for the ship cancellation is the USS CONSTELLATION Sailing ship stamp.
All Cachets have another cancellation in addition to the one from the ship. Half of the second cancellations are from the Post Office in Pascagoula, MS. The cancellation also used the AEGIS Shield with the Pascagoula Zip Code of 39567 under the ship. On the left side of the shield is the word PASCAGOULA going upward and on the right side is the word MISSISSIPPI going downward. In the killer bars to the right side says Decommissioning Station, September 30, 2004, USS TICONDEROGA CG-47. The National World War II stamp is used for this cancellation.
Half of the second cancellations are from the Post Office in Ticonderoga, NY. The cancellation has an outline of the ship and above it it says U.S.S. Ticonderoga, September 30, 2004 and Farewell Station 1983-2004. Below the ship it says Ticonderoga, NY 12883. The Korean War stamp or the Purple Heart stamp are used for this cancellation.
All Cachets are provided in a glassine envelope and are stuffed with the same insert that is provided with the coins. This insert card has a beautiful color picture of the ship with the battle flag flying and the crest and dates of commissioning and decommissioning on one side and on the back a black and white picture showing the ships characteristics.
